It was a case of making the most of the time available today in Italy for Luca Marini and Joan Mir as rain reigned over the Monday Mugello Test.
Overnight rain left the Mugello Circuit damp when the track opened at 10:00 Local Time, prompting the Repsol Honda Team to wait for better conditions. Dodging the rain would only last so long as a storm set in just after lunch time, leaving the track wet for the rest of the day.
While many were deterred by the conditions, Luca Marini took the rain as an opportunity to improve his feeling with the Honda RC213V in the wet. Completing a total of 40 laps, the most of any rider, the Italian would end the day in third place with a best time of 1’49.051. Leaving content with what he achieved given the conditions and time available, Marini will be looking to resume his progressive march when the championship returns in Assen.
Joan Mir would head out on track just after 11:00 Local Time, finding a handful of wet patches still around. This would be the closest the riders got to dry running in the morning as the rain returned at midday. The #36 would continually return to the track throughout the day to assess a number of items. A 1’49.788, set on lap 3 of 24 would be Mir’s fastest time of the day and see him end in fifth.
The MotoGP World Championship will resume at the Dutch TT on June 28 to 30, Round 8 of the season. HRC engineers and riders alike will continue to work away over the course of the break to return in the best form possible.
